Breaking down the door for female firefighters, lieutenant Leslee Smith retires from North Whatcom Fire and Rescue

Lieutenant Leslee Smith retired from North Whatcom Fire and Rescue in October after 26 years of service, leaving behind a trailblazing career where she helped women see themselves in bunker gear and a red hat. Smith, a B.C. native, spent the beginning of her career as a child care counselor in B.C. and a behavioral specialist at Blaine Primary School.

'Keep Washington Evergreen' initiative focuses on health and future of local forests

Two key pillars of the new "Keep Washington Evergreen" initiative are restoring Washington forests devastated by wildfire and preserving key forest lands from development. Keep Washington Evergreen is also a large piece of legislation heading to the state capitol in the next session, and is being spearheaded by Public Lands Commissioner Hilary Franz.

Oakville Fire District to be awarded $1,000 to support local children this Christmas

Greater Grays Harbor, Inc. (GGHI) announced they will be presenting “Oakville Firefighters for Families” a check for $1,000. GGHI will present the check as well as a collection of toys to help begin filling Santa’s bag. This presentation will be in partnership with the Association of Washington Business (AWB).

Henderson (NV) Fire Department Breaks Ground on Station 87

The Henderson (NV) Fire Department recently broke ground on Station 87, and its construction won’t increase taxes, reports news3lv.com.

Station 87—an 11,000-square-foot, three-bay facility to be built in the 2,200-acre Cadence community, east of Boulder Highway—will cover upwards of 12,000 residential units, the report says.
