Vancouver Fire Marshal's Office receives $219K FEMA grant

The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office received nearly $220,000 in federal funds this year to continue its recurring outreach campaign aimed at preventing residential fires. The program, Project Home Safe, allows deputy fire marshals and Fire Corps volunteers to go door-to-door and talk with residents and homeowners about simple ways that they can reduce the risk of starting a fire at home.

Rooster Comb Fire south of Wenatchee now 60% contained; no structures lost

The Rooster Comb Fire south of Wenatchee is now 60 percent contained as evacuation levels are set to be lowered Monday evening. The fire is now listed at 88 acres after an infrared flight over the area on Monday, according to Chelan County Fire District 1. About 130 personnel worked the fire on Monday after state mobilization was approved.

Red Oak Area VFD (AL) Welcomes Fire Apparatus

The Red Oak Area Volunteer Fire Department has been presented with a newer fire engine, reports The Andalusia Star-News.

NAFECO based in Decatur (AL) provided the truck, which was built by KME Fire Apparatus. He stated the new truck would be a greatly improved addition and has a 2,000-gallon tank.

The new truck with a 2,000-gallon tank will fill two pumpers at a time and have 1,000 gallons per truck.

Fire Chief Jonathan Norris said Red Oak was long overdue for a new truck after the previous one had been in use since 1980.

Spartanburg County (SC) Fire Apparatus in Accident with Tractor Trailer

A fire truck was putting out a vehicle fire when it was hit by the tractor-trailer, reports WYFF 4.

Troopers said the driver of the truck was injured but no firefighters were hit in the accident. The news station reports that one person was put into a medical helicopter and flown from the scene.

Fatal Accident Occurs With Palo Alto Fire Department (CA)

A Palo Alto Fire Department engine suffered major damage in a fatal accident with a box truck, reports CBS San Francisco.

The fire engine was tending to a solo vehicle crash when a driver of a white box truck carrying a load of baked goods struck the fire engine on the left rear portion of vehicle. The fully loaded engine spun counterclockwise upon impact.

The crew immediately went to help the driver. It took them nearly 30 minutes to cut away the wreckage. The driver later died at the hospital. The man’s identity has not yet been released.

The damaged $600,000 fire engine was assigned to Station 4. To replace it, Station 4 will have to pull an older truck out of the reserve backup fleet.
