New York Governor signs legislation to support 9/11 and communications for first responders

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul recognized the New York National Guard on Saturday afternoon, 20 years after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Hochul spoke at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City, and announced that she signed three pieces of legislation to support 9/11 and communications for first responders.

Kitsap County Fire Marshal investigating Island Lake fishing pier fire

The Kitsap County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of an early morning fire Thursday that damaged the wooden fishing pier on the north shore of Island Lake. Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue firefighters were called at 5:27 a.m. to the county park between Silverdale and Poulsbo when a person walking their dog called 911 after seeing the flames.

Driver extricated after truck slams into school bus

Bellevue Police say a truck driver suffered minor injuries after crashing into a school bus while crossing into oncoming traffic. Police say the truck was driving southbound on Coal Creek Parkway near Forest Dr when it crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting a school bus going northbound. The driver of the truck had to be extricated and was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

NWFR levy lid lift would help department add firefighters and replace equipment

North Whatcom Fire and Rescue (NWFR) will have its levy lid lift back on the ballot in the general election November 2 after failing in the primary election in August. If the lift lid passes, NWFR will collect property taxes in 2022 at a levy rate of $1.45 per $1,000 of assessed value. NWFR will use the tax increase to maintain current service levels and add four battalion chiefs and four firefighters to the ranks.
