20 years later, Spokane asking for firefighters to register for 9/11 memorial climb

Twenty years later on 9/11, Spokane will hold a memorial stair climb to honor and remember the firefighters who lost their lives. According to Spokane City Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer, local firefighters will climb the equivalent of the World Trade Center, 110 stories. The event will be held at the Bank of America Center in downtown Spokane.

Wildfire on island near Port Townsend holding at 22 acres

A wildfire burning on a small island west of Port Townsend is holding at about 22 acres as of Wednesday morning. A spokesperson with the Department of Natural Resources said that, while it is on federal land, they could say there was no new fire growth Wednesday morning. A forest service crew and a DNR helicopter were on scene Tuesday but there are no longer any DNR resources on the fire Wednesday.

Washington (MO) Opens Fire Station

The Washington Fire Department has opened a fire station, reports emissourian.com.

The fire department posted to Facebook, “The Washington Fire Department in partnership with the Washington Community Fire Protection District is pleased to announce the opening of Fire Station 6 at 7952 Highway KK, Washington, MO on today’s date. The station houses pumper/tanker 8163 a 2020 four door Spartan/Alexis fire apparatus with a 1,250 GPM pump, engine company equipment, an 1,800 gallon water tank with dump capabilities and a 2,100 gallon portable water tank. This apparatus provides both first in engine company capabilities as well additional water hauling for the rural area. An open house and dedication for the Station and apparatus will be Sunday, September 19, 2021 at 1:00 PM.”

The 3,600-square-foot station sits on 2 acres of landed donated to the Washington Community Fire Protection District by Charles and Dorothy Eckelkamp 15 years ago.

Owatonna (MN) Unveils Fire Apparatus

The Owatonna Fire Department showed its new fire engine to city officials, reports KRFO AM 1390.

The truck cost $750,000 and has the same specs as the fire department’s current first-out primary fire engine. The goal was to have two basically identical trucks.

The truck is capable of carrying 1,000 gallons of water. The engine has a remote nozzle on the front bumper that can be operated from inside the cab. Both of the Owatonna engines have that feature.

A fire official said it is important for Owatonna to be a two-response truck department, which also comes into action during a mutual aid call.
