Massachusetts firefighters celebrate final days of nearly 140-year-old station

Since 1980, retired and active firefighters from Station 6 on Purchase Street have gathered every few years to take group pictures along the staircase inside the fire house. Hairstyles and fashions have changed between the framed photos, but the formation of firefighters along the stairs has remained constant.

Seattle firefighters rescue teen who fell from bridge into Wolf Creek ravine

Firefighters rescued a teenage boy who reportedly fell from a bridge overnight in East Queen Anne, emergency officials said. Crews responded to the scene, the McGraw Street bridge over the Wolf Creek Ravine Natural Area near 2nd Avenue North, at about 2:45 a.m. after receiving reports that someone had fallen from the bridge.

One person injured in collision involving Pierce Transit bus

Tacoma firefighters say at least one person was transported to the hospital after a bus involved in a collision crashed into someone’s yard. Firefighters responded to the collision, which involved a Pierce County Transit bus and a pickup truck Monday evening in the area of South 37th Street and South Thompson Avenue.

Bear cub treated for burns at Cedar Creek Fire in Okanogan County

A bear cub was treated for burns at the Cedar Creek Fire near Mazama on Monday. State Department of Natural Resources employees responded Monday after a bear cub was found with a burned snout within the fire area. Specialists have treated the cub and he’s expected to make a full recovery. The Cedar Creek Fire, sparked July 11 about six miles southwest of Mazama in Okanogan County, has burned more than 24,000 acres and was listed at 11 percent contained Monday morning.

Weymouth (MA) to Reopen Fire Station

Weymouth Fire Department is planning to reopen a fire station that was closed due to budget constraints more than a decade ago, reports The Patriot Ledger.

Due to a national recession and town-wide budget constrains, the fire station was downsized to an administration headquarters in 2008.

Since coming into office, the current administration has added seven new firefighters and funded another five firefighters who were hired with temporary grant money. The town received a second federal grant in March of 2020, which provides more than $559,000 to cover a portion of personnel expenses for four new firefighters.
