Hurricane Ida carved a path across Louisiana that cuts through a region packed with hazardous-chemical plants, raising risks of an environmental disaster along an industrial strip infamously nicknamed “Cancer Alley.”
About two thirds of Louisiana’s industrial sites with toxic chemicals were in Ida’s path, with the storm predicted to charge through 590 sites that produce or store those hazardous materials, according to an analysis of the U.

Members of the Colfax Fire Department heard the call all firefighters fear on Saturday.
"When you hear that call over the radio that a firefighter is down, your heart just sinks," said Colfax Assistant Fire Chief Craig Corbeill.
That call was for long-time Colfax fire chief and volunteer firefighter Jim Krouse.

The latest in a seemingly endless summer of large wildfires broke out early Sunday evening south of Wenatchee, as the Rooster Comb Fire erupted on Methow Street near the foot of Squilchuck Canyon and quickly surged into the surrounding drainages.

Nine people were displaced by a house fire in Sultan late Friday night.
The fire in the 12600 block of Trout Farm Road next to the Sultan River started just before midnight, said Fire District 5 Chief Merlin Halverson. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire was fully involved. The modular home was a total loss, he said.

The skies above East Wenatchee are clear again after a brush fire sent of short-lived column of smoke into the air just after 3:15 Friday afternoon.
The 2.5 acre fire was east of 27th Street and North Baker Avenue in grass and brush.
Crews from Douglas County Fire District 2 and Chelan County Fire District 1 responded and had the fire knocked down by about 4:00 pm.
