Plans for a new fire station in Columbia (MO) are moving forward with groundbreaking expected sometime this fall, according to a story published by The Missourian.
The new Fire Station 11 will be constructed in the southwest part of the city near Scott Boulevard and Route K, according to the newspaper.
With 10,000 square feet available, the new fire station will have three apparatus bays, living space and a police substation, according to the article.
A bid approval for the new station is still needed, but construction on the $2.5 million station should be concluded within six to eight months after it starts, the newspaper reported.
A quarter-cent Capital Improvement Program sales tax will pay for the new station, which is hoped will become a gathering place for the community, featuring a playground for neighborhood kids, the paper reported.
