McRae-Helena (GA) Fire Department Adds 78-Foot Aerial

The McRae-Helena (GA) Fire Department has added a new, 78-foot aerial to its fleet thanks to a pair of grants, reports wgxa.tv.

The apparatus comes with a 36-foot ladder, and firefighters are still training on it.

The grants totaled close to $1 million, while the truck itself cost more than $700,000. The additional funds allowed the department to purchase other equipment, too—e.g., a compressor system and 12 new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

Seattle: Deadly crisis calls drive first responders, community in search of new ways to respond

Finding alternatives to crisis calls is an experiment now underway at the Seattle Fire Department. A program called Health One has a social worker ride with firefighters, and instead of racing from call to call, the team can spend extra time with each patient. In no way is Health One set-up to replace police functions.

East Jefferson Fire Rescue may get contract to manage Port Ludlow fire department

East Jefferson Fire Rescue may take over the management of Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue if commissioners for the two departments can find agreement on a proposed contract. Port Ludlow fire commissioners reviewed a draft proposal for an interlocal agreement at their last meeting. The contract would see East Jefferson Fire Rescue handle administrative and management services for Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue, a department that had 19 employees and expenditures of $2.
