I-90 fire burns about 40 acres in Grant County

The I-90 Fire, burning in Grant County near the Wild Horse monument, has been contained according to the Sheriff's Office. Deputies say the fire sparked at about 540 p.m. Sunday afternoon and burned about 40 acres. A helicopter from the Department of Natural Resources was brought in to get the blaze under control.

Wildfire Extinguished off Greens Canyon Road in Orondo

Just after 2:20 Sunday afternoon Rivercom dispatch received report of a wildfire off Greens Canyon Road in Orondo four miles south of the Beebe Bridge. On arrival Orondo Fire Department found a one-acre fire quickly spreading up the steep hillsides of the Columbia River. A second alarm was struck with 18 fire apparatus and 56 firefighters from agencies in Douglas, Chelan and Okanogan Counties as well as the DNR and BLM.

Sherrills Ford (NC) Fire Station Under Construction

The new Sherrills Ford-Terrell Fire and Rescue station is under construction and will replace a building that is 50 years old, reports Statesville Record & Landmark.

The base will be 14,000 square feet and cost $2.7 million. Construction broke ground on April 21 and the station is expected to open in early 2022.

The new station will start with the same number, but as new housing is built and more people move to the area, more responders may be added to the base. It will also house a fire engine, a tanker and a quick response vehicle for medical calls.

Man Smashes Coral Gables (FL) Fire Apparatus Window After Accident

A driver has been arrested and charged after he smashed a gas pump and fire truck window, reports Miami 7 News.

No one was injured in the crash. Santana-Jardines faces charges of criminal mischief, resisting an officer with violence and possession of cocaine.

Homeless Resident Steals And Crashes Healdsburg (CA) Fire Apparatus

Healdsburg police have arrested a homeless resident accused of stealing a fire truck and crashing it into a tree, reports KSRO.com.

The police department posted to Facebook, “On Thursday, June 3rd, at about 4:30 PM, HPD Dispatch received several calls of a fire pick-up truck driving recklessly on Hwy 101. The reporting party believed the truck to have been stolen due to the manner in which it was being driven and the behavior of the driver. It was soon reported that the vehicle had exited Hwy 101 and driven onto Lytton Springs Rd. where it crashed into a tree and the driver fled on foot. Officers soon arrived on scene and were directed to a large field leading up to the Hwy 101 off ramp and were advised that the driver had run in that direction. … The stolen fire truck received major damage to its driver’s side quarter panel as a result of the collision.”
