Nespelem 'fire storm' stretches tribal, state resources: 'This is usually what we expect in August'

Firefighters made progress on Friday battling a wildfire that destroyed four homes and forced a town to evacuate, although thunder, lightning and wind in the forecast could change the situation quickly. The Chuweah Creek fire, near Nespelem on the Colville Reservation, grew to 34,694 acres and was 20% contained Friday evening.

Evacuations downgraded for Goddard Road Fire, burning half-mile near Rice

Evacuations for the Goddard Road Fire, burning near Rice, have been downgraded to Level 2 evacuations. Level 2 means ‘Get Ready,’ and means you should be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. The fire is 10% contained. The evacuation orders were downgraded for the first time since Friday. People living near Rice in Stevens County were previously under a Level 3 evacuation due to the fast-moving brush fire near Goddard and Pleasant Valley.

Texas firefighters struggle against flames, smoke, natural gas in vacant apartment building

VIDEO: Flames, smoke and natural gas worked together to create a huge challenge for San Antonio firefighters early Friday morning. New tool gives Alabama firefighters a better look at intubating patients

VIDEO: Firefighters in Mobile are getting new equipment that could help save lives. Mobile Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer Steven Millhouse explained the new device. He said, “Video laryngoscope. We use it for intubations in the field which would allow us to keep an airway open.” Millhouse intubated a practice dummy while telling us about the new equipment.

Teen Pulled From Florida's Surfside Collapse Rubble Reunited With Rescue Workers

The teenager who was pulled from the rubble of the collapsed Surfside condominium was reunited with the first responders who helped rescue him. New photos show Jonah Handler meeting with the first responders who came to his rescue shortly after the June 24 collapse of the Champlain Towers South. His father, Neil Handler, posted the photos on a GoFundMe page.
