Goodyear firefighters have begun using their new facility, Station 181, which will be formally dedicated during a virtual ribbon-cutting later this week, reports Litchfield Park Independent.

The ceremony will stream live on the city’s Facebook page, @goodyearazgov.

The 15,855-square-foot station is the second new fire station to open in Goodyear this year. The first was the 12,587-square-foot fire station that was dedicated with a virtual ribbon-cutting March 3.

Each fire station features a decontamination corridor that allows firefighters to decontaminate their turnout gear, a vestibule that reduces their exposure to cancer-causing contaminants by separating the clean residence side from the “dirty” business side, and a second decontamination corridor that allows firefighters to rid their bodies of contaminants.

The Plymouth Fire Department has unveiled its brand-new truck at a “wet-down” dedication ceremony, reports WickedLocal.com.

Town officials joined firefighters for the ceremony. Funding for the apparatus was approved at a 2019 Town Meeting and it replaces the department’s 2004 Pierce Dash pumper.

This 2021 E-One Cyclone 2 features a 1,500-gallon-per-minute pump; a 1,000-gallon water tank; a built-in 10 kilowatt hydraulic generator and light tower; and rescue tools including the Jaws of Life.

The engine features modern highway safety construction for additional protection for firefighters and has a smaller wheelbase that allows the engine to be more maneuverable.

This new apparatus will also feature the department’s first clean cab configuration, with a separate compartment designated for bunker gear and SCBA storage. “The goal is to keep those contaminants outside the cab and keep our firefighters safe. Moving forward, all of our trucks will have this,” said Brian Moya, Santa Fe’s Assistant Chief of Support Services. “It was also important to work with a local dealer that provides great customer service as well as a long-term maintenance plan.”

The Ferrara HD-77 ladder will replace an aerial that was damaged by an arsonist 18 months ago. Because the Ferrara HD-77 ladder was a stock unit, the department was able to get the much-needed apparatus more swiftly. Even so, Moya said they were still able to customize all compartments to meet their specific needs. This includes coating the interior of all compartments to maintain cleanliness of both the compartment and any tools or equipment stored there. 411 Equipment is mounting all equipment in the truck and providing final graphics before delivery.

The Phoenix (AZ) Fire Department’s (PFD) Recruit Class 21-1 just finished the Tarver Drill, learning how to respond to a mayday scenario.

The Tarver Drill was introduced after the loss of firefighter Bret Tarver in the Southwest Supermarket Fire on March 14, 2001.

His death led to extensive training by the PFD and the revelation that the fire service needed to improve its rapid intervention practices.
