Foam 331: First Responder to the Nation’s Worst Aviation Crisis

PHOTOS: At 9:37 am Eastern Time on September 11, 2001, two fire captains—Michael Defina and John Durrer—from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Fire & Rescue Department, based at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, were standing on the departures level of the main terminal. They were responding to a minor vehicle accident, but their attention quickly turned toward a low rumble, followed by smoke rising to the northwest.

Clark County fire station now staffed full-time due to partnership between fire districts

VIDEO: Fire Station 151, near the Clark County Fairgrounds, has been used only lightly since it was finished about 20 years ago. Now, a new partnership between two fire districts has the station up and running with full-time staff. Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue and Clark County Fire District 6 began jointly staffing the station full-time this month, with Clark-Cowlitz crews there for one-third of the time and Clark County crews on staff the remaining two-thirds of the time.

Yakima blaze holds steady at 300 acres with 40 percent containment

VIDEO: The fire off I-82 at milepost eleven that started Sunday morning, is still burning. Right now, it is at 40 percent containment. The fire has burnt about 300 acres, but as of now, the fire has stayed in the same place from when it started. "The fact that the fire is kinda sitting in the same footprint that it was close to 24 hours ago is a good thing," said Thomas Kyle-Milward, the wildfire communications specialist for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources.

Man confesses he started fire to 'kill people' at Olympia mobile home park

VIDEO: A 20-year-old Olympia man is held on $150,000 bail after investigators said he confessed to starting a fire to “kill people.” The Friday night fire gutted three mobile homes, and damaged a fourth, at Olympia’s Tony’s Mobile Home Parks on Martin Way East. No one was hurt, but two cats and a ferret died in one of the homes, according to the Lacey Fire Department.

Fire leaders from Yakima County to discuss Regional Fire Authority next week

Fire leaders from around the valley will be gathering to discuss whether turning the Yakima Fire Department into a regional fire authority is a good idea. This is one of the solutions city council members wanted to look into to avoid closing Station 92 in West Valley when reviewing the 2025-26 budget cycle.
