The Seattle Fire Department will train new firefighter recruits at a vacant home near the Sunset Hill and Loyal Heights neighborhoods from May 4-6 at 2904 NW 80th St. Live-fire training is an opportunity for our new fire recruits to work with our officers and face real fire scenarios in a controlled setting.

Grant County Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters from Royal Slope Fire & Rescue arrived to a frightening sight Monday morning when they responded to a plane flipped onto its top about nine miles northwest of Royal City. PIO Kyle Foreman said 83-year-old Dwain Forester thankfully was not in flight when he and his 1960 Cessna 175B went belly up near Road 11 Southwest and Beverly Burke Road Southwest.

West Memphis will have a grand opening for an all-new fire station, reports WMC 5.

The fire department posted to Facebook, “The ceremony also includes the official welcome of Engine No. 7, a brand new Pierce Mfg Enforcer Pumper! The new addition to the city’s fleet will undergo a ‘wetting,’ its first bath with its new department, and then be pushed into its bay by the firefighters.”

The fire station features a fitness center, larger living space and the latest technology and equipment for firefighters.

Preservationists prevented demolition when the fire station became a local landmark, reports WXOW.com.

The La Crosse Heritage Preservation Commission voted unanimously to designate the 1940 building as a city landmark. The current building is not usable for a current fire department and can only fit one vehicle.

A fire official said that the fire station has mold, asbestos, gender equity issues restrooms so expanding the fire station would not be an option.

Whatever happens next with the building is not up to the preservation alliance.

A four-bay garage may be built on a lot of donated land next to the existing fire station, reports WMC 5.

Voters will need to approve up to $3 million in funding. The cost of the project is expected to be around $2.4 million based on previous discussions, but the $3 million figure will provide a buffer that could help cover unforeseen expenses.

The firefighters would also have more room for storing their equipment and have new shower facilities. The current station was built in the early 1970s, when the department would respond to 30 to 35 calls a year and when firefighting vehicles were smaller. Now, crews consistently responds to more than 300 calls per year.
