The Seattle Fire Department says a fire that broke out early Saturday morning at a new construction building in South Seattle was intentionally set. Just after 3 a.m. Saturday, crews responded to reports of smoke and flames from a mid-rise new construction building at the 2000 block of Rainier Ave. S.

Quint 124 was placed into service on January 15, 2020, with the Coppell (TX) Fire Department (CFD).

This quint is currently housed at Station 3 and will move to Station 4 when this new station goes online later this year. The cab/chassis is the Velocity model with TAK-4 Independent Front Suspension System.

Seating for five is provided as well as are two rear-facing cabinets on each side of the crew area. Another rear facing cabinet is mounted on top of the engine tunnel. The cab and body are constructed of aluminum, and hinged compartment doors are part of the body package. The truck is powered by a Cummins X 12 500-hp engine and an Allison 5th-Generation EVS 4500 transmission with six speeds and push-button shifter. The Pierce Command Zone Advanced Electronics & Control System with WiFi headlines the electrical system on the truck. A Harrison MSV six-kW generator is mounted at the front of the turntable.

The apparatus has a Hale QMAX-200 single stage, 2,000-gpm pump (mid-ship) and a 480-gallon UPF poly tank. Foam capabilities are provided by a FoamPro 2020 Foam System and a 20-gallon cell. Foam is plumbed to the front discharge, the three crosslays, and the 2½-inch discharge on the pump panel. The front bumper tray will accommodate 125 feet of 1¾-inch hose and 100 feet of one-inch forestry hose. The crosslays include two with 200 feet of 1¾-i

According to a report from WTSP, after learning that Tampa (AL) Fire Rescue’s (TFR’s) Fire Station 13 was handling one in seven calls throughout the city, the temporary steps that were being taken in January to reduce stresses on that overburdened station look as if they are working.

TFR members were getting burned out, and response times were lagging. So, in January, Tampa City Councilman Luis Viera voiced his displeasure at the statistics. So, city leaders demanded the TFR do something “right here, right now” to address the problem.

A presentation made to city council members on Thursday showed that those adjustments were having an effect.

For instance, the addition of another advanced life support unit to Station 13 and well as spreading peak work hours over seven days rather than five, the station has rapidly seen double-digit reductions in calls for service per day vs. the same period last year; this includes both fire suppression and rescue crews.

Another big impact was the decision to move an apparatus to nearby Station 11, which has resulted in a reduction of dispatch calls of nearly 50 percent for that unit.

There are additional, long-term solutions in the works, which is good news not only for overburdened TFR firefighters but also for civilians served by Station 13.
