Fire destroys trailers, vehicle near Ephrata

Two travel trailers and a vehicle were destroyed by fire in the 10700 block of Road E.6 Northwest, southwest of Ephrata Thursday night. Grant County Fire District 13 Assistant Chief Todd Hufman said there were no injuries. Fire crews were dispatched at about 9:30 p.m., Hufman said. Firefighters found the two travel trailers and the wooden porch connecting them in flames, according to GCFD 13.

Chelan County PUD studies targeted power cuts to control wildfire risks

The Chelan County PUD is studying how power cuts have been used in California and Oregon to reduce the risk of wildfire as it develops its own proposed plan. “The risks to our communities and the risk to our utility have grown so catastrophically that we need to do our due diligence in exploring this option,” PUD spokeswoman Rachel Hansen told commissioners this week.

Woman in critical condition after neighbors heard small explosion at Seattle apartment

One woman is in critical condition after a small explosion occurred at an apartment in Seattle's Laurelhurst neighborhood, the Seattle Fire Department says. Seattle firefighters responded to reports of a small explosion at a residence in the 5000 Block of Mithun PL NE just before 4:30 p.m. Friday. Neighbors reported hearing the explosion and worked to extinguish the fire.

Longtime Springville (NY) Volunteer Fire Department Captain Gets Ride in New Truck

According to a report from The Springville Journal, the Springville (NY) Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) honored its longtime truck captain, Dennis Cobo, with a ride in the its new Engine 1, which replaces the department's old engine of the same name.



The SVFD wanted to honor Cobo, who was the truck captain on the old Engine 1 for more than 30 years, by giving him a ride in the new truck around the village, with SVFD members praising Cobo for everything he has done for the department during his many years of service.

A 42-year SVFD member, Cobo joined the department on September 1, 1978. In addition to his duties as truck captain, he has served in numerous other positions throughout his career, such as helping build the new Franklin Street station, serving on truck committees, and other influential aspects of the department. 

As the department moves forward with the new Engine 1, SVFD Chief Marc Gentner said the new truck will be a big help to the department, praising the Village of Springville for its efforts in securing the new truck.

Fire Truck Collides with Car in West Philadelphia (PA)

According to a report from CBS3, a fire truck and car collided in West Philadelphia at around 9:15 a.m. on North 53rd Street and Haverford Avenue Friday morning.

At least one person was rescued from the car.

Officials say the fire truck was heading to a house fire at the time of the crash. There was no word yet on the cause of the accident.
