The sale and use of fireworks could get banned in some parts of King County, according to KOMO. King County Council members are considering the proposed measure this week, and if it passes, would ban the sale and discharging of fireworks in unincorporated parts of the county. Council members Joe McDermott and Claudia Balducci are sponsoring the proposal.

According to a report from The Sequoyah County Times, the City of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, has purchased a 2003 Emergency One aerial ladder with a 95-foot aerial platform from the Fayetteville (AR) Fire Department. The city was able to purchase the truck for $30,000 plus buyer’s premium fees.

Sallisaw Fire Department (SFD) Chief Anthony Armstrong said that, if purchased new, this type of apparatus would cost more than $1 million. The department purchased its current 75-foot aerial truck in 2009 for $25,000. He continued to say that the new truck passed their inspection and seems to have few issues.

The new aerial will replace the SFD’s 1989 Pierce aerial truck that is currently in service. The longer aerial lift as well as an increased pumping capacity will provide more points to the city’s ISO rating.

The new aerial will be placed in service once it is outfitted with the necessary hoses and equipment.

According to a report from Sierra Media Wave, the Big Pine (CA) Fire Department (BPFD) purchased a HME Super 6 at the end of September 2020. The vehicle has since been painted by Inyo-Mono Body Shop and then was outfitted in late December. The cost of the truck was $286,000.

Features include a single-stage pump capable of pumping 500 gallons per minute (gpm), a portable diesel pump capable of delivering 200 gpm, and 300-gallon water and 20-gallon foam tanks.

The truck also has two reels with 100 feet of one-inch hose. BPFD members have placed all their rescue tools on the truck for a faster response, and it can be driven by any BPFD firefighter rather than them needing a Class B driver.

The ne truck also has two 12-volt LED scene lights, a portable FoxFury scene light, hose packs, and wildland tools.

A fire destroyed a small residence on Vashon in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 3. Vashon Island Fire District responded to a call about a cabin fire at 4:38 a.m. and arrived to find a fully involved fire in progress. More than a dozen firefighters battled the blaze and protected a nearby house to the west of the property, not leaving the scene until 8 a.
