Tennessee Senate passes bill to provide volunteer firefighters with $600 training stipend

The Tennessee Senate passed a bill that would aid volunteer firefighters in the state. Senate Bill 778 would provide volunteer firefighters with an annual payment of $600 upon completion of at least 30 hours of training. “Our volunteer firefighters put their lives on the line and give up their time to keep our communities safe,” said Bell, a former volunteer firefighter in Tennessee.

3 pets killed as fire destroys Marysville home; 8 residents displaced

Three pets were killed and three are missing after a home was destroyed by fire Thursday morning in Marysville. Firefighters responded to the blaze on 123rd Place NE at around 6:30 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke and flames spewing from the house. Fire officials say the home had working smoke alarms and as a result all eight residents there were able to escape without injury.

Lewis County Fire District 6 Trains for Rescues and More

A team of firefighters with Lewis County Fire District 6 burst out the front door of an unoccupied residence on Jackson Highway, dragging the limp body of their incident commander out of the smoke. Together, they quickly maneuver him out of his gear and begin chest compressions while the rest of the station watches on.

Baby elephant seal rescued from manhole on Whidbey Island

VIDEO: Alex Hunter, a 23-year-old student at Bellevue College, was visiting his parents on Whidbey Island for the week when his grandfather, Dave Anderson, interrupted their dinner asking for Hunter's help. Anderson had gotten a phone call saying his assistance was needed—and to bring a big net. “My grandpa was a vet for many years and is known as a great problem solver around the island, so that’s why he was called,” said Hunter in an email to KOMO News.

Glenburn Rural Fire Department (ND) Receives Two Donated Fire Apparatus

The North Dakota Forest Service donated two fire trucks to Glenburn Rural Fire Department, reports KX News.

Last March, the department lost all of its equipment and trucks to a fire.

One truck is used for heavy grass fires and the other is used to fight medium grass fires.
