Colorado Springs (CO) Donates Fire Apparatus to Mexico Department

The Colorado Springs Fire Department has donated a 1997 HME Becker Type I fire engine to Nuevo Casas Grandes, Mexico, reports The Gazette.

The fire departments have worked together since 1996. The fire truck is the second engine Colorado Springs Fire Department has donated to Nuevo Casas Grandes. The fire truck was loaded with donations (clothing, shoes, books and toys) from the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs for a local orphanage in Nuevo Casas Grandes.

Colorado Springs typically maintains fire trucks for an average of 17 years then tries to sell the engines.

The two fire departments coordinated to have a team from Nuevo Casas Grandes pick up the vehicle but Donna Nelson, who helps with Colorado Springs sister city coordination said they ran into trouble at the southern border.

Orland (ME) Considers Building Fire Station

Orland is may build a new fire station to replace the aging facility, reports The Ellsworth American.

The current fire station’s issues include leaks, drainage problems and noncompliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. A committee examined the current fire station and also states that the current building is too narrow and not deep enough for modern engines and too short. The entrance doors are not high enough to accommodate modern fire trucks.

The town does have land elsewhere that could be used for a new station. Any plans to build a new building or renovate the current building would need to be approved by voters.

DeGraff Village Council (OH) Plans for Fire Station

DeGraff Village Council has created a special committee to oversee the construction of a new fire station, reports PeakOfOhio.com.

The 100-year-old fire station can no longer support larger vehicles. The committee is planning a study to evaluate the fire station and plan to buy a new fire truck in 2027.

The council hopes that all necessary funds, grants and other sources of revenue have been figured out when the fire station is built and the fire truck is purchased.
