New Fire Station Location is Proposed for Hatchville Area in Falmouth (MA)

According to a report from The Cape Cod Times, the location for a new fire station in the Hatchville area of Falmouth, Massachusetts, will go before a vote for final approval from the Falmouth Select Board on February 22.

The citizens’ advisory committee selected 860 Sandwich Road, next to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Falmouth and the George Gaspa Sports Complex, as the best location to address the emergency response coverage gaps in the Falmouth area.

Falmouth Fire Department Chief Timothy Smith said the proposed station would serve the northeast section of town, from Sandwich Road to the Mashpee border, as well as to Joint Base Cape Cod and toward the north.

A proposed warrant article for the April 12 Town Meeting will seek to appropriate money to fund the project management, determine the the station’s design and construction, and to consider how the money will be raised and spent. If Town Meeting voters approve the article, the town would soon get a construction cost estimate.

Select Board Chairperson Megan English Braga asked that the advisory committee research locations for another new fire station that could serve the North and West Falmouth areas.
