In a typical school year, students often look forward to visits from their local fire departments — or perhaps they're lucky to visit a nearby station in-person.
But this year, those visits and field trips have been put on hold due to the pandemic. So the Overland Park Fire Department is hoping to bring that experience to you and your student.

The innovative new station of Rescue Company 2 in Brooklyn is a welcome upgrade from their former station house, which was built in 1893 when the FDNY still used horses. Designed through a partnership with the New York City Department of Design and Construction and the illustrious architecture firm Studio Gang, the multifaceted new building serves as a training space where the specially-trained unit can practice responding to fires, building collapses, water rescues, and other dangerous scenarios.

A 2-alarm fire tore through businesses in a strip mall in Seattle’s Lake City neighborhood overnight.
Firefighters were called to a commercial fire at a shopping center in the 3000 block of Northeast 127th Street shortly before 11 p.m. Monday.
When firefighters arrived, they found fire burning in stores in the middle of the building with heavy smoke coming from a small space in between the ceiling and roof.

Firefighters quickly controlled a trailer fire in Mead early Monday morning.
Crews responded to the fire near N Wilson St and N Highland St, where they said the fire sparked from a fireplace.
Authorities said the trailer is unoccupied, but a person was detained by police for reckless burning. That person does not live at the home and was described as a “non-resident.

A Monday morning fire damaged a home and detached garage near Moses Lake.
Grant County Fire District 5 responded to the blaze in the 8000 block of Terminal Street Northeast.
The fire appears to have started in the detached garage and spread to the home.
“Our volunteers made a great stop to have some medium damage to the primary structure,” fire district 5 officials stated.
