Several fire departments pulled recruits from the state’s fire academy after a city firefighter suffered a medical emergency while participating in a training drill Wednesday at the facility in Montour Falls, near Watkins Glen.
Battalion Chief Sean McGarrity of the Ridge Road Fire Department, in Greece, Monroe County, confirmed that four department recruits were pulled from the training at the New York State Academy of Fire Science in Schuyler County.

PHOTOS: The Glenburn Fire Department lost its building and six trucks in an early morning fire Saturday.
Lance Johnson, fire district board vice president and firefighter, said the department responded to a call at 5 a.m. Area fire departments from Lansford, Maxbass and the Minot Air Force Base assisted.

Normalcy is making its way back to Washington thanks to the COVID-19 vaccine.
"We now have three very effective vaccines coming into the state of Washington," said Dr. Umair Shah, Washington’s Secretary of Health.
With three vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson and Johnson now in circulation the Department of Health says more supply has helped us get to a point where we've hit our goal of daily inoculations.

PHOTOS: East Pierce firefighters worked to extinguish hundreds of mattresses in an early morning brush fire Sunday.
East Pierce Fire said crews were dispatched to a residence in Sumner just after 3 a.m. Sunday for a brush fire.
When they arrived, they found hundreds of mattresses burning.
Crews worked for several hours to extinguish the fire, no injuries were reported.

Two travel trailers and a vehicle were destroyed by fire in the 10700 block of Road E.6 Northwest, southwest of Ephrata Thursday night.
Grant County Fire District 13 Assistant Chief Todd Hufman said there were no injuries. Fire crews were dispatched at about 9:30 p.m., Hufman said.
Firefighters found the two travel trailers and the wooden porch connecting them in flames, according to GCFD 13.
