One killed in crash with fire truck in Alabama

Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate a two-vehicle crash at about 8:16 a.m. Sunday that resulted in a man's death. A 2005 Nissan Armada struck the back of a Reece City fire truck, killing a passenger in the Nissan. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene, Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey said in a press release.

Women become big part of firefighting force in Pennsylvania town

‘When the sparks just flew’: How power lines ignited dozens of Washington state fires during fierce Labor Day winds

The Labor Day fire that destroyed most of this community started in a stand of pine at the edge of a farm field. A treetop, buffeted by powerful late summer winds, snapped and fell onto power lines, which slapped together and spewed a shower of sparks. Early on, this blaze appeared rather ordinary, creeping through a carpet of needles and grass.

New North Kitsap behavioral health unit to respond to mental health, substance abuse calls

A new behavioral health unit based in Poulsbo will be available to respond to a variety of emergency mental illness, mental health, substance use and behavioral health calls in North Kitsap beginning in January. Associated with the Poulsbo Fire Department, the new, two-person unit will be available to respond to fire and police referrals throughout North Kitsap and Bainbridge Island.
