Senator sponsor bill to help rural ambulance operations

Sen. Mark Schoesler, R-Ritzville, is sponsoring a bill that would make it easier for small communities to provide joint ambulance services, as the 2021 legislative session gets underway in Olympia. If approved, the proposal could help two small Whitman County towns — Garfield and Farmington — continue operating their combined emergency medical services.

Vancouver firefighters quickly douse fire at rural home

A fire inside a rural home near the Five Corners area of Clark County was knocked down in the early morning hours Sunday, according to the Vancouver Fire Department. Crews were sent to the 11000 block of NE 94th Avenue just after 4:30 a.m. Despite limited access and no available fire hydrants, the second story blaze was extinguished in less than ten minutes.

Marysville Fire District opens temporary clinic to provide COVID-19 vaccine to first responders

The Marysville Fire District helped to organize a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for first responders which has been open for about a week now. The clinic is allowing firefighters and EMS professionals across the county to have more access to the vaccine. “We opened this Monday [Jan. 11] and since then we’ve had a fairly steady stream of individuals come in,” said Darryl Neuhoff, deputy chief with the Marysville Fire District.

Washington state launches web site to check eligibility for COVID-19 vaccine

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee on Monday announced a plan to set up vaccination sites statewide with help from the National Guard and others as part of an overall goal to vaccinate 45,000 people a day. Inslee said while the goal is currently higher than the current allotment of vaccine the state is receiving from the federal government — 100,000 doses a week — the state is working to get the infrastructure in place now for that amount once doses increase.
