Milton moves off Florida's coast after lashing state with torrential downpours, deadly tornadoes

VIDEO: After making landfall Wednesday night near Siesta Key, Hurricane Milton is moving off the east coast of Florida while continuing to produce damaging winds and life-threatening floods Thursday morning. Even before Milton made landfall as a powerful Category 3 storm, outer bands from the system washed over the state Wednesday morning, sparking up tornadoes and giving residents an idea of the wrath Milton packed.

City of Seattle to become first in nation with fire department EMTs administering buprenorphine medication in the field

The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) is expanding its Buprenorphine Pilot Program and Seattle will be the first city in the nation with a program for firefighters/emergency medical technicians (EMTs) to administer the medicine in the field. SFD paramedics began administering the drug earlier this year, and now an initial group of firefighter/EMTs will be trained as well.

Work begins on Gig Harbor Fire’s training center as Fox Island, Crescent Valley projects near completion

Gig Harbor Fire and Medic One reached a milestone on Tuesday, Oct. 8, when it ceremonially broke ground on construction of a new live-fire training center. Another milestone is just around the corner. The department expects renovation work on two of its fire stations — Station 53 on Fox Island and Station 57 on Crescent Valley Drive — to wrap up in the coming weeks.

Unoccupied Spokane Valley home catches fire

Firefighters were dispatched to an unoccupied house that caught on fire in Spokane Valley early Wednesday. According to the Spokane Valley Fire Department, the blaze was quickly controlled, and no injuries have been reported. Fire officials stated that the majority of the damage is concentrated at the back of home at 4900 block of North Evergreen Road.
