Firefighter Pat Nipert is retiring from the Bellevue Fire Department after 25 years serving the city and a public safety career spanning more than four decades.
The Bellevue Fire Department announced the retirement on Monday, shortly after the NORCOM dispatch center recounted his career highlights over the radio.

New construction seems to be popping up all over and as more people move in, fire departments across the Tri-Cities are preparing by adding more fire stations. Over six new fire stations are in construction throughout Kennewick, Richland, and Pasco. A few are still in the planning stages or almost completed.

The Mid Columbia Strike Team, consisting of firefighters from Grant County Fire District 5, the Moses Lake Fire Department and Chelan County Fire District 8, are on day 7 at the about 18,000-acre Palmer Fire burning in Okanogan County.
The strike team, led by Grant County Fire District 5 Capt. Travis Svilar, includes three trucks from fire district 5 and one truck each from Moses Lake and Chelan County.

A protest that started in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood turned destructive Monday night when demonstrators broke windows, sprayed graffiti and started a fire next to SPD's East Precinct.
According to Seattle Police, the protesters marched from Cal Anderson Park to the West Precinct, where people began hurling objects at the building, breaking windows and spray-painting graffiti on the walls.

A small number of Thurston County firefighters were recently deployed to Eastern Washington to help state and local agencies there with the worsening wildfire season.
Two crewmembers from Southeast Thurston Fire Authority and four from South Thurston Fire and EMS were dispatched earlier early last week separately to the eastside and were setting up to assist with the Palmer Lake fire burning near the Canadian border in Okanogan County.
