First Responders, Red Cross Volunteers To Be Honored On ‘24/7 Day’ July 24

Convenience stores across America are joining together this Friday, July 24, to recognize the contributions of front-line responders, medical personnel and American Red Cross volunteers on 24/7 Day. The NACS Foundation’s 24/7 Day features a variety of free in-store offers from 18 different convenience and fuel retailing partners, most of which are available to doctors, nurses, EMTs, police officers, firefighters and American Red Cross volunteers.

Guemes Island's new fire chief makes history

Olivia Snell was never one to doubt her ability to accomplish her goals. Point Roberts Fire Chief asks Trump, Trudeau to open transit

The Point Roberts Fire Chief is asking the federal government to consider opening some international transit. Point Roberts is a trans-border Whatcom County community located near the U.S.-Canada border with no direct access to the mainland United States. Chief Christopher Carleton wrote a letter to President Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other officials, saying their residents are particularly dependent on transit through Canada for everything from basic services to healthcare.

Wildland Fire South of Ephrata Stopped at 20 Acres

A wildland fire near the junction of Highways 282 and 17 south of Ephrata drew a multi-agency response Monday afternoon. Grant County Fire District 13 Battalion Chief Casey McDonnell says they got the call about 1:30 with smoke showing from Ephrata. “It’s in an area that has pretty high potential for fire growth so at that time, Ephrata Fire Department and Grant County Fire District 5 were requested as mutual aid.

10th person dies from COVID-19 in the Wenatchee Valley

Health officials with the Chelan-Douglas Health District reported the area’s 10th coronavirus-related death late Tuesday morning. The person was a Douglas County woman in her 50s. Local health officials continue to stress the importance of wearing a mask. “For the health of your family, neighbors and friends, it is more critical than ever to wear a mask when in public,” the health district stated in a press release.
