Seattle: Nearly 7,000 gallons of gasoline spill from terminal at Harbor Island

A large gasoline spill Thursday morning prompted some evacuations and caused a huge traffic mess on Harbor Island Thursday morning. The spill was reported after a pump failed just before 5 a.m. at the Shell Harbor Island Petroleum Terminal, fire officials said. Firefighters shut down the area and established a 1,000-foot safety perimeter until Shell employees could reach the scene to clean up the spill.

2 seriously hurt as pickup flips, burns on U.S. 2 near Index

Two people were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition after a crash Thursday on U.S. 2., about 3 miles west of Index. Both of those injured are males, but their ages and hometowns were unknown, Sky Valley Fire Chief Eric Andrews said. Around 12:30 p.m., a pickup truck towing a cargo trailer flipped and rolled 30 feet down an embankment.

WDFW lifts fire restrictions, including target shooting ban, on most department-managed lands

With cooler temperatures and higher humidity reducing wildfire danger, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is lifting fire restrictions, including the temporary ban on target shooting, on most department-managed lands on Oct. 1. “We welcome people to build campfires and responsibly sight in their hunting firearms on most of the lands we manage,” said Cynthia Wilkerson, Lands Division Manager for WDFW, “but we continue to urge hunters, target shooters, campers, and all others heading outdoors to be cautious when doing activities that could spark a wildfire.

Historic Flight Foundation to honor first responders, medical workers with a flight over Spokane, Coeur d'Alene

After planes and public access were grounded due to smoke, wind and COVID-19, Spokane and Kootenai County residents will have a chance to see several historic planes this weekend during a flight to honor first responders and medical professionals. Executive Director of the Historic Flight Foundation Sheila Geraghty said the museum hoped to highlight how much nurses, EMTs and firefighters had been through during the pandemic, by giving them a chance to fly in historic planes across the region.
