Seattle Fire Department now at full strength with no firefighters in quarantine

The Seattle Fire Department is now back at full strength in its battle against COVID-19. As of Monday evening, none of its firefighters are in quarantine anymore, with all those infected or exposed considered in the clear, according to department spokesperson Kristin Tinsley. So far during the outbreak, 127 members of the department have gone through a 14-day quarantine period.

Washington Corrections Center for Women inmate volunteers sew gowns, masks for coronavirus fight

While the Sisters of Charity live inside the confines of the Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW) in Gig Harbor, they’re providing plenty of help for those on the outside in the fight against the coronavirus. The group, formed about 20 years ago at the Corrections Center, with many serving life sentences, make items from donated materials for about 30 different charities.

Trump Administration Moves To Block Washington's Oil Train Safety Law

The Trump administration on Monday moved to block a Washington state law that imposed safety restrictions on oil shipments by rail following a string of explosive accidents. The Department of Transportation determined federal law preempts the Washington law adopted last year, which mandated crude from the oil fields of the Northern Plains have more of its volatile gases removed prior to being loaded onto rail cars.

Doctors keep discovering new ways the coronavirus attacks the body

Deborah Coughlin was neither short of breath nor coughing. In those first days after she became infected by the novel coronavirus, her fever never spiked above 100 degrees. It was vomiting and diarrhea that brought her to a Hartford, Conn., emergency room on May 1. “You would have thought it was a stomach virus,” said her daughter, Catherina Coleman.

6-alarm blaze rips through New Jersey neighborhood, leaves 59 homeless

Nearly 60 people were displaced after a six-alarm fire tore through a Paterson neighborhood on Saturday night. The blaze was reported around 8:40 p.m. on Beech Street and spread to six houses, according to Paterson Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale. No injuries were reported among the residents, but a firefighter and police officer suffered minor injuries, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
