Nursing college in Pennsylvania launches national COVID-19 study of health care, first responders, service workers

The M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing at Villanova University has launched the national COVID-19 Caring About Health for All Study (CHAMPS) of health care, first responder and service workers for the health care system during the COVID-19 pandemic. Managing the health care needs of COVID-19 patients has had a tremendous impact not only on the lives of those delivering health care directly but on those who support that effort, from ambulance drivers to maintenance and housekeeping staff whose service has been essential to maintain the health care enterprise.

Grounded Horizon pilot becomes Orting firefighter and paramedic

A Horizon Air pilot volunteered to take an unpaid leave of absence so he could help Orting Fire and Rescue, which needed an experienced paramedic to help respond during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. “Both jobs really have an adrenaline rush behind them,” said Hunter Chumbley, who has flown for Horizon since 2017.

Hay Canyon Fire Burns Just Outside of Cashmere

Fire personnel responded to a 2-alarm brush fire about a mile up Hay Canyon Road outside of Cashmere around noon Tuesday. CCWIC Lead Operations Dispatcher Josh Gibbs explained that, at last check, the size of the fire was about 10 acres but the nature of the fire made it hard to tell. Gibbs said, “The report that we got from Rivercom was the report of a brush fire near a shooting range.

Fire destroys four trailers at Whatcom County campground along Mount Baker Highway

For once, the coronavirus pandemic actually may have saved lives. Nobody was home when fire swept through and destroyed four trailers at the Black Mountain Ranch campground along the Mount Baker Highway Monday afternoon, May 4. “It was a pretty good fire, and thankfully nobody was there,” Whatcom County Fire District 14 Chief Jerry Debruin told The Bellingham Herald Tuesday.

Seattle City Council authorizes $8 million to purchase and prep site for new Fire Station 31

Seattle will spend about $8 million to buy and prepare a site in Northgate for the construction of a new fire station. The City Council voted Monday to allocate the money and authorize the purchase. The new Fire Station 31 will replace an existing station at 1319 N. Northgate Way that shut down in June due to concerns about conditions there, including mold.
