An electrical fire destroyed a home and displaced five people Monday afternoon in Terrace Heights, East Valley Fire Department reported.
Firefighters were called around 5 p.m. for a fire at 408 Butterfield Road. They were told the fire was on the outside of the house, but when they arrived the entire one-story structure was on fire, said fire Capt.

Crews stopped a shed fire from spreading to a nearby home on East Jutte Lane in Elk early Tuesday morning.
Flames were reported in the shop next to the house at 3:30 a.m. Homeowners said they do not know how the fire started.
The fire caused nearby propane tanks, fireworks and some ammunition to explode.

COVID-19 related budget cuts -- in communities large and small – have resulted in the layoff or furlough of at least 935 fire department employees, including front-line firefighters, EMTs & paramedics.

A New Jersey Assembly panel advanced a bill that would help first responders and their families financially in the event that they are disabled or injured by COVID-19. Local law enforcement officers, state troopers, firefighters, and emergency medical responders enrolled in one of the three retirement systems associated with these professions are eligible for accidental disability benefits if they sustain a permanent and total disability resulting from a traumatic event that occurred on the job.
