Let The Dogs Out: This Seattle Dog Daycare Owner Is Reopening Her Doors for First Responders

CJ Tomlinson shuttered her dog daycare and boarding business earlier than other Seattle businesses out of an abundance of caution in the early days of coronavirus — but now she has made the difficult decision to reopen. Her outpost, House of Ruff, has been deemed essential by Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, and Tomlinson said she has taken 25 reservations so far for Thursday when she puts out the puppy welcome mat.

Firefighter sustains leg injury while battling Spokane Valley house fire

A firefighter is being evaluated after sustaining a leg injury while battling a house fire. According to the Spokane Valley Fire Department, the fire, which broke out in the 15300 block of E 9th Lane, is now out. Crews are continuing to work to extinguish any hot spots. The fire started on the exterior back deck before spreading to the home, according to the Fire Department.

Firefighters knock down house fire in Spokane's West Central neighborhood

Firefighters responded to a house fire in Spokane’s West Central neighborhood Wednesday afternoon. The house, located near W Broadway Ave and N A St, could be seen smoking from the outside. Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames. Fire crews said the fire started on the front of the house and expanded to the second floor.

100 years ago in Seattle: 7 travelers escape hotel fire, but at least 4 occupants die

Several Spokane travelers escaped from a catastrophic fire in the Lincoln Hotel in downtown Seattle – but four other hotel occupants died and a number were still missing. Horrified spectators watched from the street below as one man and his 20-year-old daughter stood on high window ledges on the fifth floor.

Decontamination tents help Metro Detroit firefighters keep coronavirus out of their homes

VIDEO: For first responders, one of the greatest fears during the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis is bringing the virus home to their families. A Metro Detroit company is building decontamination units to place in the middle of fire stations to ease those concerns. Patrick and Zoe Kintz, from Great Lakes Remediation first offered to build decontamination tents for a friend -- Southfield firefighter Jamie Rakestraw and his wife, Andrea.
