East Jefferson Fire Rescue firefighter returns to duty following heart transplant

Lt. Reece Chambers of East Jefferson Fire Rescue has a lot of heart. He’s now on his second one. Chambers, 42, is believed to be the first firefighter in Washington state to return to front-line duty after receiving a heart transplant. He went back on Jan. 2. “New heart, new start,” Chambers said Friday while working at the Chimacum fire station.

Court records: Spokane woman killed by ex-husband strangled, covered in fire accelerant

A woman found dead in a burning car on Spokane’s south hill was strangled to death and found covered in fire accelerant, according to court documents. Spokane Police have arrested Yasir Darraji and charged him for the murder of his ex-wife Ibithal Darraji. Police and firefighters responded to the car fire on Thursday near Thornton Murphy Park.

Three people rescued from submerged vehicles near Monroe

Three people in two separate vehicles had to be rescued early Monday morning after they tried to drive through floodwaters near Monroe. According to Snohomish Fire District 7, crews responded just before 6 a.m. to reports of two people trapped in a vehicle in the 20900 block of Crescent Lake Road near Monroe.

Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue Assists with Injured Snowmobiler Rescue

Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue crews, Chelan County Sheriff, Cascade Ambulance and LifeFlight were toned out to rescue an injured snowmobiler on Pole Ridge above Fish Lake on Sunday. “Our fire district happens to have a snowmobiler trailer and Toboggan so we sent a team up to the site where the injured rider was,” said Chief Mick Lamar.

Quilcene Fire Rescue appoints interim chief

The retired fire chief of Central Mason Fire-EMS will begin work as interim chief of Quilcene Fire Rescue today. Tim McKern, 60, will serve as interim chief until April 1 while fire district commissioners pursue a long-term plan for a permanent chief. The commissioners decided unanimously to offer him the position at a special meeting Thursday night.
