More Than 400 Elevators Got Stuck During Manhattan Blackout, FDNY Says

VIDEO: More than 400 elevators got stuck when a massive blackout wiped out power in parts of Manhattan on Saturday, the city’s fire commissioner said. The blackout left 73,000 customers without electricity for several hours on Saturday evening, Con Edison said. At a press conference on Sunday, FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said more than 400 elevators got stuck during the outage.

Kennewick man injured while escaping house fire

Authorities say a 30-year-old man was injured Saturday when he broke out his bedroom window to escape a fire that enveloped his home. Firefighters were called about 6 a.m. to reports of a home on fire at 3303 W. Seventh Ave., according to a Kennewick Fire Department news release. Arriving fire officials found a large volume of fire coming from the building and an injured resident in the front yard, the release said.

Olympia Film Society documentary fest to screen Station 93 about Evergreen's student firefighters

Unless you were at The Evergreen State College in the 1970s, you probably don’t know that students once served as firefighters — driving engines, handling hoses and coping with medical emergencies.
