Seattle firefighters are taking to the streets in an effort to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Seattle Fire’s fill-the-boot campaign has raised more than a million dollars in the past 18 years.
Muscular Dystrophy can refer to a wide range of diseases – but the one thing they all have in common is that they break down the muscles needed for everything from blinking and swallowing to walking.

24-year-old Chelsey Miller is making history.
Monday afternoon, she was officially sworn in as the first female firefighter with the Longview, Washington fire department.
“I’m excited to be the first female here and I hope to make everybody proud and succeed and show that other girls can do this job too and it’s not just a man’s job,” Miller said.

Firefighters responded to a fire in a Spokane Valley cannabis facility Saturday evening.
Workers at Grow Op Farms, in the 2600 block of North Woodruff Road, found heavy black smoke coming out of a marijuana grow room. When firefighters arrived, there was no visible smoke or flames coming from the building.

A shed fire forces a blockade of Snow Lane in Benton City overnight.
The Benton County Sheriff's Office shared these pictures, above, of Benton City firefighters at work on the blaze on Sunday.
The road was blocked off for hours as firefighters got the fire under control.
KAPP-KVEW has reached out to officials to learn more about the cause of the fire.

VIDEO: A firefighter has been killed in an explosion at a building on Route 2 in Farmington Monday morning, a member of the board of selectmen said.
H. Scott Landry told WMTW News 8 that an unnamed firefighter was killed and six others were taken to hospitals.
The injured include five firefighters and one civilian, Landry said.
