PHOTOS: Hundreds of islanders packed Fire Station 21 for the annual Bainbridge Island Fire Department pancake breakfast.
Bainbridge Fire Chief Hank Teran said firefighters and volunteers served about 1,400 breakfasts, and nearly 1,500 people climbed aboard a Bainbridge fire engine for a firetruck ride through the neighborhood.

A local woman who filed suit after she was wrongly investigated and charged with first-degree felony arson will receive a $100,000 settlement.
The Seattle Times reports that the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority has settled the civil-rights lawsuit with 66-year-old Linda Poplawski of Des Moines.
Authorities say the arson charges resulted from a November 2016 fire in a Kent strip mall that leveled a Dollar Tree store and damaged two other businesses.

Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue (LWFR) is one of the fire districts in the state to receive a Department of Natural Resources surplus wildland brush engine at no cost. The selection process to receive an engine is based on fire districts that demonstrate a strong partnership with the DNR and also the community’s risk with wildland fires.

Right now firefighters are looking into what caused a fire that destroyed a grain elevator in the small town of Winona just outside of Endicott. The first call came in just after 1 p.m. this afternoon with crews responding from all over Whitman County.
A fire quickly engulfing a 65-year-old grain elevator.

Fire District 7 is returning to the voters to ask for a levy lid lift, after a summertime funding request was defeated at the polls.
The levy on voters’ current ballots requires a simple majority to lift the lid for one year, then the levy rate will fall after that based on assessed value, said Heather Chadwick, public information and education officer for the district.
