Guinness World Records: Oldest continually manned fire station is in Michigan

A northern Michigan fire station has been dubbed the world’s oldest continuously manned fire station, and just in time for its 130th year anniversary. The Manistee Fire Station was awarded the title of “Oldest Continuously Manned Operating Fire Station” by Guinness World Records on Monday, June 17. This is the first time Guinness has ever given out this award, and the designation required more than two years of documentation-gathering by the Manistee Fire Station.

Edmonds rejects plan for emergency bridge to waterfront - for now

A bridge to handle life-and-death emergencies got voted down Tuesday night, following a public outcry that the overpass would cost too much and damage the beach. The bridge would have extended from the intersection of Edmonds Street and Sunset Avenue and jut west across the railroad tracks, stretching down to the shoreline at Brackett’s Landing North.

71-year-old man severely injured by 'runaway' dump truck trailer in Capitol Hill

VIDEO: Seattle firefighters rescued a 71-year-old man who was pinned under a construction trailer which rolled backwards over a Capitol Hill sidewalk and crashed into a building Tuesday. Witnesses along the 1200 block of E. Pine Street told KIRO-7 the dump truck hauling the flatbed trailer and a 27,000 lb.

FBI investigating possible arson, explosion near Renton church

The FBI is investigating after a possible arson and explosion in a Renton neighborhood, police say. Officers responded to the scene, in the 15500 block of 116th Avenue SE, at about 10 a.m. Wednesday. Aerial footage from KOMO's Air 4 shows police tape and investigators at a local church. FBI agents have taken charge of the investigation.

Spokane Valley Fire buys weighted blankets to comfort people with autism

VIDEO: The Spokane Valley Fire Department has purchased weighted blankets available for calming those diagnosed with autism or anyone who may be experiencing a crisis. SVFD spokesperson Julie Happy says the blankets, purchased from the ISAAC Foundation, have already been delivered to most stations. Holly Lytle founded the nonprofit in 2007, when her son diagnosed with autism passed away just before his fourth birthday.
