Fire officials say two-year-old annual burn ban in Grant County has drastically reduced fires

The annual burn ban enforced in Grant County in 2017 is drastically reducing fires according to local fire chiefs. Two years ago, Grant County Commissioners passed a resolution that activated the ban in response to the very high volume of fires burning in the area. The ordinance places an automatic restriction on outdoor burning from June 1st to September 30th each year within the unincorporated areas of the county.

Fire, damaged water line temporarily closes Dollars Corner restaurant in Battle Ground

A small fire damaged Julie’s Cottage Kitchen in Dollars Corner early Thursday morning. A Clark County Fire and Rescue crew quickly responded around 4:36 a.m. to the restaurant at 21708 N.E. 72nd Ave. for the report of a commercial structure fire. Firefighters were there within a minute; CCFR Fire Station 26 is across the avenue from the restaurant.

Burn ban in Spokane area to be lifted today

Fire Marshals around the Spokane Metro area will be lifting restrictions on outdoor burning on Friday, Sept. 20. The outdoor recreational fire restrictions that were implemented on July 24, will be lifted after almost two months, taking effect at 8 a.m. Friday. Restrictions for specified outdoor recreational fires (campfires, fire bowls, fire pits) will be lifted for the Spokane County and Spokane Metro area by order of area Fire Marshals.

Pennsylvania officials unanimously approve bill to forgive student loans of volunteer firefighters, first responders

Pennsylvania officials have unanimously passed a new measure that seeks to ease the burden of student loan debt for municipal volunteers of fire companies, rescue companies, and non-profit emergency medical services. An amended version of the bill will head to Pennsylvania's House of Representatives after it was passed Wednesday.

U.S. Fire Administration Report: Vast majority of fire-related firefighter injuries linked to structure blazes

Of the estimated 26,000 fire-related firefighter injuries that occurred annually from 2015 to 2017, 87% were related to structure fires, according to data published in the July edition of the U.S. Fire Administration’s “Topical Fire Report Series.” Additionally, according to the data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System, firefighters were more than 11 times more likely to be injured in a structure fire than in a nonstructure fire during the three-year period – 11.
