Spokane firefighters got some extra climbing training this week helping to assemble the famous River Park Square Christmas tree.
Local 29 union firefighters spending two days assembling the tree which includes 10,000 lights and 2,700 ornaments.
The 50-foot tall tree has been a downtown Spokane staple since making its first appearance in 2002.

Alexis Skjelbred dreamed at an early age of becoming a nurse. With academic struggles because of test anxiety, she gave up that idea during high school.
Even eight years ago, such a goal seemed distant. Skjelbred was entering her 40s while juggling being a single mom, working two jobs and starting at Spokane Community College.

After nearly 60 years in the making, the time has finally come to start work on the North-South Freeway in north Spokane's Hillyard neighborhood.
A map provided by the Washington Department of Transportation shows a small section of Wellesley Avenue will be closed for the next three years.
Drivers will be able to use Francis and Euclid to get from one side of Market street to the other.

A fire Tuesday night at a restaurant in Chehalis’ Twin City Town Center left one business with fire damage and two more with water damage, but Chehalis Fire Department Chief Ken Cardinale said it could have been a different story altogether.
“The sprinkler system actually kept the fire in check,” he said.

One person is dead after a fatal vehicle fire occurred earlier this morning at Celebration Park in Federal Way.
South King Fire and Rescue (SKFR), along with police, responded to the incident at approximately 7:15 a.m. at the park, located at 1095 S. 324th St., Federal Way.
Upon arrival, SKFR crews worked quickly to extinguish the car fire, then discovered a body inside the vehicle, fire officials said.
