A proposed change in the way Cobb County’s public safety officials are compensated has come under criticism from police and fire fighter representatives.
Under the so-called “step and grade” table presented to county commissioners earlier this month, public safety employees would receive a 3-percent “step” increase each year.

Private firefighting continues to grow as an industry. With fires scorching the state of California, some homeowners and insurance companies contract out companies to protect homes and structures in wildfires.

fire tore through several vehicles and an outbuilding in Vancouver Friday morning.
At around 4:17 a.m., Vancouver Fire crews were dispatched to a fire in the 10200 block of Northeast 108th Avenue.
Officials said several vehicles and an shop-like outbuilding were damaged. It's not known at this time how many vehicles burned.

Firefighters from 31 Washington state fire districts, including four in Thurston County and one in Lewis, have been dispatched to help fight California wildfires, according to the Washington's Emergency Management Division.
Teams started driving down to California Monday morning and are all based at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, according to Karina Shagren, communications director for the Washington Military Department.

Clallam County Fire District No. 4 has purchased three automated external defibrillators after receiving a $4,168 grant from the Benjamin N. Phillips Memorial Fund. The fund awards grants each year to organizations serving Clallam County.
The AEDs arrived earlier this month and are now in the personal vehicles of the district’s lead responders, which allows them to respond directly to the location of a possible heart attack patient.
