Dispatching practices contribute to fire problems in New Jersey

The firehouse on John F. Kennedy Boulevard is just under a mile from Janice Pantano’s Central Avenue shore home, but on May 23, when Pantano called 911 to report her car on fire, it took 19 minutes before firefighters had begun spraying water at the scene. By the time the fire was put out, her car and her home were destroyed.

Backyard brook tested for toxic firefighting foam in wake of deadly Connecticut plane crash

A Windsor family contacted environmental officials after they said they saw firefighting foam building up in their backyard brook. Connecticut health officials issued an alert immediately following a deadly vintage plane crash on Wednesday where the firefighting foam with PFAS may have made its way into the Farmington River and surrounding waterways.

Kelso Fire investigating arson after suspects torch car and porch

Jeremy Snyder said he was inside his home on Northwest 1st Avenue in Kelso when he heard an eruption of flames outside. He looked out the kitchen window and saw the porch and his car on fire. "Probably one of the scariest moments that I've had in my life," said Snyder. "I was out of the house in three seconds.

Fire power in Soap Lake: Joe Russell's family legacy of service

In over 15 years under Joe Russell’s leadership, the Soap Lake Fire Department never lost a life. Now 92, Russell joined the department in the early ’60s. The fire chief at the time, K.R. “Rusty” Nolan, took Russell on as an assistant for a number of years, before Nolan grew sick and could no longer manage the volunteer fire department.

Bainbridge council will ban fireworks on island at next meeting

The Bainbridge Island City Council is looking at banning completely the sale and use of consumer fireworks on Bainbridge Island. While the city has, in the past, banned the use of consumer fireworks due to dangerously dry conditions around the Fourth of July holiday, Bainbridge currently does allow the sale of consumer fireworks on the island between noon to 11 p.
