Spokane County woman escapes early morning house fire with pets

A woman woke up in her home just south of Deer Park early Friday morning to find her house on fire. Firefighters responding to the house fire on Owens Road just south of Deer Park told KHQ the woman woke up to crackling and saw a red glow inside her home. The woman immediately evacuated the home with her pets and called 911.

Seattle: Fire that burned Leschi home deemed arson

A fire that burned a home in Leschi has been deemed arson, Seattle Fire officials said. The fire broke out just at the two-story home just after midnight Wednesday morning in the 800 block of Lakeside Ave. South, said Kristin Tinsley with Seattle Fire. Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the roof and attic space.

Benton County Fire District 1 commissioner who helped save lives for 55 years has died

For more than half a century, Gerald “Jerry” Sleater helped battle fires in Benton County Fire District 1. Whether it was from a seat in a fire truck or behind a board table, Sleater left his mark on the 320-square-mile district that runs south of Kennewick and Richland. The longest-serving member and current fire district commissioner died Wednesday at the age of 86.

Mayor implements racial sensitivity plan in Michigan fire department

VIDEO: On Wednesday, the Lansing Mayor released a statement saying that a new racial diversity and sensitivity would go into place in the City of Lansing Government. "As Mayor of the City of Lansing, I am committed to continuing to work toward racial equity," Andy Schor said.
