Georgia fire department adopts new 48-hour work schedule to improve firefighter wellness

VIDEO: The Roswell Fire Department (RFD) is shifting to a new schedule designed to promote firefighter health and efficiency. Through a pilot program, firefighters will now work a 48/96-hour work cycle and will have a later start time. The department made the move based on health risks associated with prolonged sleep deprivation, including cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and mental health disorders like PTSD and anxiety.

‘Not much we can do’: Lineage warehouse fire in Tri-Cities just keeps burning

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Lineage cold storage warehouse continues to smolder and burn three weeks after the fire started, destroying much of the massive building. The remaining fire is in the center of the nearly 12-acre building, which is too unstable for firefighters to enter to extinguish the fire completely, according to Benton Fire District 1.

Traffic deaths in Washington hit 33-year high in 2023

Traffic deaths in Washington reached a 33-year high in 2023. There were 810 traffic deaths on Washington roads last year, according to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, a 10 percent increase over 2022 and the highest number of deaths since 1990. Traffic deaths include car crashes, as well as people on bikes, motorcycles and pedestrians.

K9 Chardonnay joins Spokane County Fire District 4

Spokane County Fire District 4 welcomed a new member to their team. K9 Chardonnay is trained as an Accelerant Detection Canine and will join her handler, Fire Marshal Jared Harms, as part of the Accelerant Detection team. After her 200-hour accredited course, Chardonnay was certified by the Maine State Police.

VIDEO: Minnesota home deemed total loss after massive fire

A family was able to escape a destructive blaze that took down their home in Orono on Sunday. Three family members were inside the home when the fire began just before 7 p.m. All of them were able to safely escape the burning structure along with the family dog, an emergency responder on the scene told KARE 11.
