Lower Yakima Valley firefighters responded to four structure fires on Tuesday and Wednesday, authorities reported. Yakima County Fire District 5 crews worked structure fires on South Wapato Road and Osborne Road between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to information from the fire district. On Wednesday they responded to a structure fire north of White Swan on Wesley Road, followed by a structure fire early Wednesday evening in the 4700 Block of Ashue Road, outside Wapato.

A fire destroyed more than a dozen RVs overnight Thursday at Mike Thompson's RV Super Store in Santa Fe Springs. Authorities responded to a possible burglary call at about 12:30 a.m. at the gated property on Firestone Boulevard in southeastern Los Angeles County near the 5 Freeway. Several RVs were in flames when firefighters arrived.

A Union City firefighter was shot early Thursday morning and the shooting is now under investigation. A spokesman for the Union City Police Department said the shooting was accidental. On an overwhelming bipartisan 393-13 vote, the House passed a bill today sponsored by New Jersey Reps. Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield) and Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson) that re-ups a number of key firefighter grant programs. The bill, the Fire Grants and Safety Act, reauthorizes the U.S. Fire Administration, the Assistance to Firefighter Grants (AFG), and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant; it also increases funding for the Fire Administration.
