2 fires burn through Pierce County food bank, apartment complex

Pierce County fire and rescue crews responded to two fires back-to-back early Friday morning. Around 5:30 a.m. Friday, West Pierce Fire and Rescue crews responded to an apartment fire in Lakewood. The fire tore through a 2-story apartment complex the Clover Creek Apartments on Addison Street. One person is in critical condition and is being transported to the hospital.

Family safe after child alerts them to fire in Wiley City home

A 5-year-old boy is credited with alerting his great-aunt and mother to a fire that destroyed their Wiley City home Wednesday morning. Diana Espinoza said she was in her home in the 10700 block of Rockstrom Road around 9:30 a.m. when she said she heard what sounded like tapping at her door. “As soon as I got up, the little boy said there is a fire,” Espinoza said.

Kent firefighters put out apartment complex garage fire

Firefighters from the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority extinguished a garage fire that broke out at about 3:03 p.m. Wednesday at the Alderbrooke Apartments in the 400 block of Novak Lane. Firefighters discovered smoke from the eaves of the detached seven-bay single story garage/storage. Firefighters contained the fire to the garage, according to Puget Sound Fire.

President Of Largest Flight Attendant Union Wants FAA To Ban E-Cigs Over Battery Fire Concerns

VIDEO: The president of the largest flight attendant union wants the FAA to ban e-cigarettes from planes because their batteries could be a fire hazard. FAA data from 1991 through this August shows at least 48 e-cigarette related smoke or fire incidents at airports or on planes. That’s more incidents than laptops and tablets, cellphones, battery chargers or spare batteries.

An emergency in Kentucky 911 Center? As number of calls jump, more staff needed

Lexington’s 911 emergency center is struggling to keep up as fewer call takers and dispatchers attempt to answer a swelling number of calls and help an increasing number of police and firefighters, city officials said Tuesday. The Enhanced 911 Center answered 477,711 calls last year. Of those, more than 217,000 are 911 or emergency calls.
