Teamsters send proclamation to retain Iowa firefighters

The union representing police and public safety officers in Cedar Falls recently issued a proclamation supporting career firefighters. But city officials note individual officers represented by the union fully support the public safety officer program. On March 4, Teamsters Local 238’s executive board made the proclamation.

More than 500 fire departments in New York registered for statewide recruitment weekend

More than 500 fire departments across New York have already signed up for the 9th Annual RecruitNY Weekend. RecruitNY is a cornerstone campaign of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY), with the goal of increasing membership in the State’s volunteer fire service. The 2019 RecruitNY weekend is scheduled for April 27-28.

Everett Fire Department to charge for safety inspections

Starting Monday, the Everett Fire Department will begin charging for annual building inspections and alarm system testing. The fee is meant to offset the cost of conducting inspections, which are outside the department’s normal operations, Fire Marshal Kurtis Brown said. Fire and safety inspections are required for all buildings deemed commercial, multi-family or vacant.

Dearborn Heights (MI) Fire Department Gets Fire Apparatus

 
 
The truck is housed at Dearborn Heights fire headquarters on Beech Daly where firefighters have been familiarizing themselves with it over the past several weeks. The truck is known in firefighting jargon as a “quint” – short for quintuple – for its five main components. The red behemoth carries a water tank, pump, hose, and ground ladders – four features common on traditional DHFD rigs. The quint has those four, plus the tall ladder.
