Truck 1 was placed into service in the spring of 2018 with the Sachse (TX) Fire Department. The truck is built on an Enforcer cab and chassis with PUC pump and TAK-4 independent front suspension. Seating for four is provided as are two rear-facing EMS compartments on each side of the crew area. The cab and body are constructed of aluminum, and Amdor roll-up compartment doors are part of the body package. The truck is powered by a Detroit DD13 525-hp engine and an Allison 5^th Generation 4500 EVS transmission with six speeds and pushbutton shifter. It also features the Pierce Command Zone system.

The apparatus has a Pierce PUC single-stage 1,500-gpm pump and a 500-gallon polypropylene tank. Foam capabilities are provided by a Husky 12 Foam System and a 20-gallon cell. Foam is plumbed to the front discharge, the two lower crosslays, and the upper crosslay. The front bumper tray accommodates 125 feet of 1¾-inch hose. The lower crosslays accommodate 200 feet of 1¾-inch hose hose, and the upper crosslay accommodates 200 feet of 2½-inch hose. The bed will accommodate 1,000 feet of 5-inch LDH in two chutes on each side of the body. Air cylinder storage is located on each side of the body adjacent to the rear wheel wells. 

The apparatus has a rear-mount, heavy-duty 107-foot Ascendant aerial ladder constructed of steel (capable of a 750-pound tip load) along with a stainless steel, high-flow waterway that can flow up to 1,500 gpm. An Akron Model 3480 StreamMaster II electric monitor and an Akron Model 5178 nozzle are featured. A 16-foot roof ladder (Duo-Safety 875-A-DR) is mounted on the right side of the aerial behind the boom panel. Techniq LED rung lighting outlines the aerial for nighttime operations. Ground ladders (35-foot Duo-Safety 1225-A 3-Section, 24-foot Duo-Safety 900A 2-Section, two 16-foot Duo-Safety 875A DR Roof, 14-foot Alco-Lite AEL-14 Attic Extension, and a 10-foot Duo-Safety Folding 585A) and pike poles are stored in two rear compartments.

The warning lights include four Whelen Freedom IV-Q 21.5-inch light bars (two on the front cab corners and one each above the crew doors). Whelen M6, M9 and WIONSMC model LED lights are located around the rig exterior. Whelen Model L31HRFN LED beacons are mounted on the upper rear corners of the truck. Scene lighting is provided by FRC Model SPA851-Q28 brow lights and SPA260-Q20 LED surface-mount lights between the cab and crew doors and above each outrigger. Audio warning devices include a bumper-mount Federal Q2B and a Whelen Model 295HFSA7 electronic siren module with two Whelen SA315P speakers with Pierce stainless grilles mounted through the front bumper corners. 

Ladder 1 is the first unit in the Sachse fleet with the newly adopted gray-over-red color scheme.

Stakeholders in the county’s ambulance service say the Jan. 1 transition to city control went off without a hitch. “We’re starting to turn from setting up the system to the maintenance of it,” county EMS Director Jeff Sargent said. Sedro-Woolley, Mount Vernon and Burlington are now the primary providers of emergency medical services in central Skagit County, taking the place of the Central Valley Ambulance Authority.

New street signs and addresses are making it easier for people unfamiliar with the Eastern Washington University campus in Cheney to find their way around, including first responders. The university undertook the Campus Fire Life Safety Signage project to bring it into compliance with the 2015 International Fire Code, which requires buildings to have addresses visible from the street, said EWU Fire Protection Engineer Mike Lunneborg.
