Clallam County Fire District 2 gives awards to firefighters, volunteers, EMTs

Margie Brueckner was named the career Firefighter/Paramedic of the Year at Clallam County Fire District 2’s annual awards ceremony. Volunteer Assistant Fire Chief Mike DeRousie was recognized for his 28 years of dedication and service to the fire district and its residents during the Saturday ceremony to recognize and show appreciation to the volunteer and career firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics who work for the district.

Georgia community watches on as fallen battalion chief returns home

VIDEO: Effingham County welcomed home a fallen firefighter Tuesday afternoon. Effingham County Battalion Chief Matt Kicklighter died of natural causes over the weekend in Daytona Beach, FL, where officials say he was attending a fire and rescue conference. The rain felt very fitting during the procession.

'The reality is no firefighter wants to file this claim'; Presumptive health bill heard in Montana

For years lawmakers have tried to pass a bill in the state legislature that would allow presumptive care for firefighters. Each year that bill is denied and for the most part it comes down to funding. As the law stands now, it's up to the firefighter to prove his illness came while on the job. If this bill passes, it puts the burden of proof on the insurance carrier instead of the individual.

MedicOne contract stands, litigation still possible in Tennessee

Pleas for the Unicoi County Commission to redo its advertisement for bids on a four-year ambulance service contract awarded to MedicOne Medical Response in December fell short Monday on a split commission vote that hinged on the possibility of $900,000 lawsuit. With commissioners Matthew Rice, Jamie Harris, Glenn White, Stephen Hendrix and John Mosley opposed, commissioners Todd Wilcox, Marie Rice and Jason Harris in favor and Commission Chairman Loren Thomas abstaining, a motion to put the contract back out for bids failed by a vote of 5 to 3.
