For the first time under a new law, state utility regulators have been asked to consider imposing penalties on the drilling company involved in last summer’s fatal Sun Prairie natural gas explosion.
A panel charged with policing utility notification laws last week sent the Public Service Commission a case based on a complaint filed by USIC Locating Services, the company that was hired to mark the locations of underground pipes prior to the explosion, which killed a firefighter and injured others.

A double wide manufactured home near 4th Street SE and Kentucky in East Wenatchee was badly damaged in a fire Wednesday morning. Cam Phillips, Assistant Chief for Douglas County Fire District #2 said the manufactured home had no working smoke detectors and one of the occupants was awakened by the heat generated by the fire “So they were very fortunate.

Three Orlando Fire Department firefighters were hurt when a car slammed into a fire engine overnight. The crash happened on State Road 408 near Conway Road, while Orlando Fire Department Engine 6 was working a crash. Fire officials said three firefighters were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Fire officials said one of the firefighters hit his head on the wheel, one was hit by the truck after it was struck by the car. Another firefighter was hit by debris.
The driver of the car that crashed into the fire engine was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert.
Orlando's Fire Chief said crews followed proper safety rules and had lanes blocked, cones placed and lights flashing.

Four people were injured in a crash involving a Cooleemee Fire Department fire truck on Thursday.
Trooper A.C. Ward says the crash happened around 4 p.m. on Junction Road in Davie County.
Two firefighters, a mother, and child were hurt. Trooper Ward says the fire truck and a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro were traveling toward each other.

A 71-year-old woman died in a Christmas Eve residential fire on the Fish Lake shore, in an incident that remains under investigation.
Christine A. Humphreys was killed in the fire, which broke out at 9:20 a.m. Monday, while her husband and son escaped. Chelan County Coroner Wayne Harris, who identified Humphreys on Wednesday, said an autopsy this week would attempt to determine the precise cause of death.
