2-alarm fire guts Kirkland pawn shop, strip mall

Several fire crews battled a 2-alarm commercial fire at a strip mall in Kirkland early Wednesday morning. After 3 a.m., firefighters received calls from people reporting flames at the Rose Hill Village on the intersection of NE 85th St. and 128th Ave. NE. Firefighters said the fire appears to have started near Yuppie Pawn Shop and a dry cleaner, two of 12 total businesses in the mall.

Clark County Fire District 6 captain accused of groping woman during training exercise at Oregon fire facility, authorities say

A fire captain is accused of grabbing a woman's buttocks during a training exercise at a Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue facility in Sherwood, according to court records and the Washington County sheriff's office. Scott Taube, 52, faces charges of third-degree sexual abuse and harassment in connection with the May 23 incident.

Seventeen years after 9-11, fallen remembered in Edmonds ceremony

Seventeen years after terrorist attacks leveled the World Trade Center towers in New York City, many came together in downtown Edmonds Tuesday morning, Sept. 11, to remember those who lost their lives that day. Among the more than 3,000 people who died, there were 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and 10 EMTs.
