A pair of new wildfires, collectively dubbed as the Iron East Fire, in the Blewett Pass vicinity have burned approximately 125 acres combined and put several homes on Level 2 evacuation notices.
Both fires were sparked last Friday at around 10:00 p.m. by lighting strikes. One is torching timber to the east of Forest Road 9714 and the other is blackening the landscape to the west of Forest Road 9714.

Two waterfront homes were destroyed by fire Tuesday morning on the west side of Vashon Island, but crews prevented the flames from spreading through the surrounding forest.
Firefighters responded to the scene, in the 19000 block of Sunset Road SW, at around 2:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a large house fire.

Oso Fire Chief Willy Harper was about to mow his lawn the morning of the slide when he got a call about something in the road. He told his wife he’d be right back.
“And I came over the hill … and you couldn’t really tell what was going on,” Harper said. “It was just a tarp in the road and it kind of looked like some mud.

Several programs are trying to keep track of the health problems plaguing people directly affected by the 9/11 attack in New York and its aftermath. There’s a federally funded program for people with documented illnesses, including dozens of different cancers, asthma and other respiratory problems, post-traumatic stress disorder, and long-term problems caused by injuries.
