Mount Vernon Fire Department looks to upgrade stations

The Mount Vernon Fire Department is asking the City Council to consider sending a bond proposal to voters in February that if passed would give the department the money to make changes at each of its three stations. The bond would allow the department to address advances in fire service and the growing population of the city, said Chief Bryan Brice.

Police: Man set fire to Marysville garage to cover up his car prowls

A man suspected of trying to break into cars was arrested Friday after he allegedly set a garage on fire to cover up his crimes. At about 3 p.m., police received reports of a suspect trying to break into cars in the WinCo Foods parking lot in Marysville. The man left the parking lot, police said, and moved to a garage in the 3900 block of 119th Place Northeast.

Firefighters: Phone scam is targeting Spokane-area residents

The Spokane Firefighters Union alerted residents Saturday that a new phone scam asking for donations to a “firefighter support fund” appears to be targeting Spokane. The phone numbers are coming from (360) 967-0952, (253) 480-6613 and others. “They are not affiliated with any firefighters or fire departments.

Morehead Fire 'pushes in' new Tower

After detailing the tradition, MFD Chief Jeff Anderson welcomed those in attendance and recognized several people in the audience, including Morehead City Council and all those who worked behind the scenes to make the purchase possible.

Anderson then talked briefly about the fire department’s mission to protect the community.

“This is something we’ve been looking at over the past few years as something our city really needed to help protect our downtown area with the college, hospital, residential areas and other businesses,” Anderson said. “The Mayor and Council said that public safety was a main priority and they proved it by allowing us to move forward on this purchase. Our mission is to serve and protect this community and this is a great step forward in helping us accomplish our goals.”

Anderson said he, along with assistant chief John Northcutt, and a few others in a “tight circle,” worked closely to help find the right apparatus for Morehead.
